Week 5! What the heck!

Monday there was a killer bee in my room! I was sitting trying to do homework when the buzzing noise started to happen! I pulled up the blinds and there was a bee. It was hurt a little bit so it would fly up and fall. I sat and held it open (because it doesn't do it by itself) and waited for it to fall far enough down that it would fly out! It took forever! Finally it left.

We also had FHE. I love Family Home Evening! We combined with another family and played a charades type game. Needless to say we crushed the other family.. by a lot! It was very fun. Then we had the best dessert ever! Already that day I had ice cream, and pie.. but I had to have this! It was basically whip cream and mint oreos. Life complete. It was delicious.

The rest of the week was basically a blur. One day there was a giant spider in my room. I came in and walked in the bathroom and on the rug there was a massive spider. I went and grabbed a plastic container and trapped it so my roommate could kill it later. Then Elizabeth comes in before we go down to dinner and she says "Oh I will kill it." So she grabs some toilet paper and tries. It escapes from her grasp and we can't get it! Finally we decided that I needed to go get the RA because I wasn't leaving my room without this spider dead. I got her and she came in a bit reluctantly. Then she smashed the spider with her shoe, looks at it and says "I'm going to go wash my shoe." It was pretty funny!

They fixed our window at one point! So now it locks, and it stays open by itself!

Friday I woke up and had a project to print out, and my computer would not turn on! It was terrifying! Thank you Dad for being awake so you could magically fix it via the phone at 6:30 your time! Ya! Friday night we went to a black light dance. Thats a dance where you wear neon and white so it shines under the black light. I felt like there weren't a ton of people there but that was because all the married people, and all the ones with dates of course wouldn't come. So there goes half the school! It was really fun though! Full of weird versions of songs, Anna losing her glasses, and hiding from creepy people. It was really fun!

Saturday I worked for most of the day, then there was the General Women's Broadcast. If you missed it, go watch it! If you watched it, then go watch it again! It was amazing! One of the greatest moments was when the women conducting the meeting got up to say who the last speaker was. We were all sitting in the chapel and she announces that Dieter F. Uchtdorf will be speaking. All together everyone goes. "YES!" It was so funny! Everyone just died laughing. What can we say, we just love Uchtdorf! The whole meeting was really great though!

I have been really missing the temple this week. I knew coming out here that the nearest temple was three hours away, but I don't think I really comprehended it. I got my recommend renewed because it was about to expire and I am just dying to go! Luckily our school has a temple day in two weeks, but I don't know if I can wait that long! Then the broadcast was all focused on the temple and I just really need to go!!! One of my favorite things that was said in the broadcast was from Jean A Stevens. She said "Temples are an expression of Gods love." I really loved that and it just solidified in me the true blessing of the temple is! So all of you close to a temple, GO TO THE TEMPLE! :)

Also I got a calling when I went to go get my temple recommend. I am part of the Relief Society activities committee. So I will have to see what I am going to do with that! But I will say that my blessing to set me apart was awesome! What was said was super cool! It was given to me by the second counselor in the bishopric. Who also happens to live with his wife right across the hall from me, because they are The Lofts supervisors.

Its been a pretty good week! Lots of homework all the time!! But Its great! I have had two conversations this week with people just talking about how we love it here. It's such a special place and it couldn't be better! Hope you are all well! Love you!
Here are some pictures of the beautiful place I live!

Police, Windows, and Theater!

Sorry its taken a little longer to post! Its been a crazy week and I ran out of time. Last week was crazy! Lots of random and funny things happened.

On Monday, we had FHE which was really fun! I love my ward!

Tuesday was my first day of work. We had our team meeting and then my first shift started. Our call out number is 91. We were warned multiple times to be careful as we are typing in the phone number. because if we dial 911 we have to go through all these steps to solve it! Of course.... I dial 911. They called back and it all went smooth and they didn't need a whole bunch of information which was good! But it was super super scary and I felt like a complete idiot! The rest of the night went all right though! :) Also I got hot chocolate so no more drinking just hot water! I was really happy! Plus I liked my hair that day!

On Wednesday, Anna and I were watching Doctor Who when Rebekah came in asking if I could drive her to Walmart. Well it was like 9 pm, but I still took her. On the way back Alley called me on the phone to help her find her keys. So I am walking her through her dorm via the phone and I remember that I locked myself out again. So I texted my roommate and asked when she would be back. Well it wasn't going to be till later (She usually does't get back till 11 or later every night), and I wasn't going to wait outside. I had things to do! I was outside looking out off the lofts, and I thought of my window. When I got here my window didn't even fit in its seal and it didn't lock. We got that fixed but the window still didn't lock very well. So I decided to force it open and climb through it. Our window also doesn't stay open if you open it, which I really hate! Anyway, I forced the window open, tossed my purse through, then I held the window with one hand, then my back, and flew through the opening! It slammed shut behind me and the lock latch thing popped off! Now remember this is all happening while I am on the phone with Alley. It was a very eventful night!

Also on Wednesday I received a package from Mom!!! It made me so happy! The signed Sutton Foster CD brightened my day a ton! Its sooo good! Thank you Karma and Ryan for getting it signed for me! Everything else in the package was also awesome! Yay!

On Thursday, I saw some leaves changing color! Very exciting!

On Firday I was determined to go to our schools play. They were performing a play called Martin and Margaret and the MINDSWAP. It was co written by one of our alumni and first performed early this year I think. IT WAS AMAZING!! I am still laughing about it four days laters! Its a spoof on the 1940 spy movies. There are 5 people in the show (6 characters, with one guy playing twins). The catch is that there is a machine that makes their minds switch. So each person ends up playing all 6 characters, with each character having a different accent! Its only about an hour and 40 minutes and it was awesome! I don't understand how the actors kept each character straight. The entire audience was laughing the whole time. It was so cool! I thought the guy that played two characters was the best. How he ran around, remembered which character was which, plus did the mindswaps, plus just was awesome.... I just don't understand! Whats crazy is I heard him in the library running lines like two weeks ago. So that means the show was put together in like 3 weeks! HOW!?? It also made me very sad that I wasn't on stage. I miss acting and being on stage sooo much!

Saturday I worked for 5 hours! It was soo long! I ate dinner with my group and we were walking back to the Lofts when I noticed one of my rings was missing. We stopped and looked around but it was gone! I was super sad! I also had a choir social. We met in the ballroom and played a game and watched Anastasia! Not very many people came because it was a Saturday, but I don't know if our President fully understood that. But it was good.

Sunday we go down to lunch before church and as we were walking out there was this note!

And my ring was next to it! So I grabbed my ring! I wore it all day and was so happy. After church we were walking back up to the Lofts and I got in my room and it was gone! It is still MIA and it makes me super super sad! It was a ring I bought in Lexington that was a little to big, so I was going to go get it resized... now its gone and that won't be happening!

That was my week! Crazy!

Its the weekend!

Man weekends are the greatest! Friday we all just hung out. We had a very exciting dinner. Usually we are all just enjoying our food, but we were so animated and loud. We definitely got some very strange looks! I was exhausted but we played a few rounds of bananagrams, and then I went to FaceTime Alley! Great times! We were going crazy and I got a little loud. At one point I was cleaning while talking. I had gone to Walmart earlier to buy NyQuill because I lost my other bottle. I was cleaning and FOUND the first bottle! I was so mad! So when I found the bottle I screamed "Theres the NyQuill!" A few seconds later, Anna texts me saying, "Were you just shouting about NyQuill". It was super funny!

Saturday we woke up early (at 7:30)  to go to a Stake Relief Society Conference. We technically aren't in the Buena Vista stake any more. They took out the YSA stake. But they invited us anyway! We left at 8:30 because it started at 9 and off we went to try and find the church in Lexington. I eventually got us there, but there were just a few cars. It turns out it started at 9:30. So we got wrapped into sticking stickers on folders. But we were happy to do any service needed. At 10 it started the workshop rotation. We went to three rotations before there was a keynote speaker. The whole conference was centered on covenants and it was awesome! Our keynote speaker was Erylnn Lansing. Her husband is a member of the Seventy.  She was amazing! They then fed us lunch and everything was coordinated! It looked amazing! The center pieces were even symbolic. So cool!

After that we all came back to change and take a quick break. We had a little heart to heart conference and then off we went to... wait for it...

FOAMHENGE!

Thats right! Stonehenge made of styrofoam! Some random guy got the idea to make Stonehenge and tell the myths about how it got there. So yes in the picture, there was a statue of Merlin. It was super super weird, but so great!!

We then came back and went to dinner. We had enchiladas in the dinning hall and they were delicious! We then all did a little bit of homework and then came in my room for Saturday movie night! This has happened for the past three weeks and its my favorite. We all pig out on popcorn and candy and just relax! Its the best! This week we watched Sleepless in Seattle. Love it!

Sunday was also really good. We had three great hours of church. In Sunday School we have been talking about Isaiah and its awesome! Then we got our visiting teacher assignments! (I get to teach Ewa! So exciting!) We also got to meet with our home teachers :) It was great! I have three very nice gentleman. Two of them are twins that are on the soccer team, and the other one is on the lacrosse team.. I think.

My visiting teaching companion invited Ewa and I over for dinner. She lives in Carriage which are houses that have kitchens! It was so nice to have food from a home kitchen! We sat there and talked for quite a while, and then my companion already had a quote to give us both and a headband she made. It was quite fun. The only problem is that I am so mad I live in the Lofts.. We have a plan to all move into Carriage next fall, but I don't think I can wait that long!

We then went to the CES fireside where Elder Christofferson spoke. He talked about giving your life to Christ. It was really cool and we got donuts after! Maple donuts for the win!

It was a great weekend. I am not ready to do my homework, so i'm writing this blog and its already 10 at night! Go me! Hope you all have a great week!

The Third Week Slump

No one warned me that all school work gets crazy the third week. I had more stuff due Friday then ever! I had a presentation, 2 quizzes, a ton of reading, a math project due, an astronomy assignment, and i'm sure there was more! I am sure there will be crazier weeks, but I was definitely not prepared for this one!

Its been a pretty basic week till the end. By Tuesday the most exciting thing that had happened was the swarm of bats that were all above main hall! My friend Anna loves birds. So we are walking to go get food and there are a ton of birds. I asked Anna what they were and she said BATS! I was not expecting that.. I was momentarily scared to leave my room.
Here is a picture of them, but I don't think you can really see much of anything. (Do take notice of the clouds! It finally cooled down!)

To continue with the craziness of last week, Rebekah got really sick. A stomach bug is going around The Lofts and I am determined not to get it! I currently have a little cold, but its nothing too bad, thank goodness!
On Wednesday my throat was hurting me, so I decided to come back to my room and make hot chocolate. I grabbed my mug and went to grab the hot chocolate. I DIDN'T HAVE ANY! I swear I had some! Where did it go! There is a chance that the room ghost took it. I have had more things mysteriously disappear then in my entire life! I then preseded to just drink warm water, and talk to Ryan and Trey on the phone. (Obviously this was way better then doing anything to prepare for my crazy day Friday).
Here is a picture of me when I realized I had no hot chocolate! I was really disappointed.

Thursday was crazy! I had two classes and from 12:15 to late into the night I was doing homework. I did have my first work meeting in that time! We just went over the procedures and rules, but I am very excited to get to work! There is such a positive love in the whole working crew! Thursday night we had an open mic night at Jonzzeys. Jonzzeys is a restaurant on campus. They have panini's, smoothies, and other things for sale. Ewa had been practicing on her ukulele and sang two songs. Then Rebekah even though she was sick decided to go up and sing! It was so much fun and I was mad I had to leave early to keep doing homework.
Here is a picture of Ewa and Rebekah performing.

When I took a shower Thursday, there was a giant creepy bug! It was the length of my pinkie and I didn't know what to do! So I took a picture and watched it while I was in the shower. Then I lost it! I don't know where that creepy thing is, but its still alive and i'm terrified. Earlier when I said the bats were keeping me inside, ya I now am considering always leaving my room!
Here is a picture.

Thursday it was announced that our former President of the school that just got replaced 10 days ago, passed away. Here is a link to the official announcement of this: http://svu.edu/news/2014/former-president-paul-k-sybrowsky-dies-at-70/

This was a shock to everyone. He had been keeping the secret of his sickness and everyone was heart broken. The whole school has been kind of sad.
Friday we had our official start of school during our Forum. We got to meet our new President (President Wilcox) and his wife Diane. They are so great and I am excited to hopefully meet them and talk with them. They are awesome! The forum had a lot of mention of our past president and it was really special.

There is a bit of my week! I have a few more posts in mind for this weekend! So there will for sure be more up on Sunday!

Campus Tour

I thought I would show you some pictures of my whole campus so you can see what I do everyday! This campus is so beautiful and I love it!
Here is our BEAUTIFUL main hall building! There are classes in here, (and soon my office for work will be moved to the third floor with a giant window!), financial offices, and the school is basically run from here.
This is the Knight in front to represent and protect us!

This is the back of main hall. The building on the left is Jonzzey's (a restraunt) and the campus store with a game room on top. Dance rooms are also in there. On the back of main hall, the part that is jutting out towards Jonzzeys, is the enterance to the dinning hall. We spend lots of time there! The path way from the enterance of the dinning hall and the corner of Jonzzey's, takes you to the front of the school and Durham (which I will mention in a second).

This is on the other side of Jonzzeys. It is on the side/back you can't see above.

From the door above, you walk to where I was standing taking the picture, and there is a koi pond! It is one of my favorite spots on campus. Its super pretty, and has a little waterfall.
So this is Durham. This is where most classes are held. I am standing at the koi pond taking the picture. If I turn slightly right and walk straight you get to where I was standing taking the first picture. If you turn right and go around the side of Jonnzey's I took a picture of, you get to the path that leads back to the dinning hall.
If you continue on that path, you get to where I was sitting when I took the back of main hall picture. If you walk a little more you get to the gym and student center.
Our Friday forums/devotionals happen here. Here is a picture from the one last week.
Now if we turn right when you get to the student center, you eventually see death (AKA the walk to the Lofts)

Its awful! Once you get to the top there is another slight hill. Here is a picture of it, but im coming down to the stairs.
That is not all the buildings! But it is the heart of campus! I will have to post all about the Library in a different post! Here is the last picture of my ice cream from the ice cream bar in the dinning hall. That place is amazing!

Oh week 2...

This week has literally been crazy! More things happened and went wrong than I can even count. It started on Friday night. My right eye was super red! I didn't know what was going on. Saturday it wasn't any better and I was starting to get worried. (We then had a good time in Lexington as I mentioned in my last blog). My family was out of reach all Labor Day weekend which was hard for me. But thank you to all the people that texted me and called me!

Then there was Sunday. I was already for some spiritual uplift.. but no. We had, according to my dad, a first few week missionary guilt session. All sacrament meeting was about repentance and then third hour was all about excommunication and the steps the church takes. Which is good information for all of us to know.. but doesn't make for that great of church. We all walked out of there exhausted and totally drained!

Starting Monday or Tuesday we started to find all of these bugs in our room. Virginia has soo many bugs! I am fine with them outside, but once they cross the threshold into my room, I am not okay!

I think it was Tuesday when my friend Anna, came into my room asking if she could put an ice pack in my fridge. She preceded to tell me how she found this bump by her rib that was all bruised. She thinks she remembers her dorm door (which is insanely heavy!) falling into her side when she was carrying something. She went to the nurse and showed her her side and was informed that she may have a bruised or cracked rib. She was in a lot of pain but there wasn't much we could do for her! I felt awful! She couldn't sleep very well at night and she had to take a lot of Advil.

On Wednesday, I walked with my friends down to dinner. I gave the lady my key to swipe so I could get food. She looks at me, tells me to turn around, and then tells me my shirt is "barley see through" so I needed to change. I had been let in all day! The shirt I was wearing wasn't even see through. It had lace on the top (which my undershirt was under it). Apparently the way the sleeve fell, slightly revealed the strap of my undershirt. So I stormed back up the hill, stairs, and second small hill, across the parking lot, down the hall, back to my room to change! I JUST WANTED FOOD! I am very thankful that our school enforces the dress code, because it does keep the spirt here (which I even mentioned in a job interview. Keep reading!) But my shirt, which I can move the sleeve, should be totally okay! I really am still upset about it. Especially because all she said was that I could go get a cardigan to put over it and it would be fine.....

Also on Wednesday. I was finally in bed at a reasonable time trying to finish reading my assigned sections of the Iliad. All of the sudden I hear an alarm from upstairs. Then it hits our floor! It was piercing! We were having a fire drill! So out the door I went in my pajamas. I was all warm and comfortable. But safety first I guess. The best part was, right as we all head out there. The pizza guy should up and didn't know what to do. I think someone ordered pizza, but we don't know.
Here is a picture of us standing around outside.

On Thursday, we decided to go walk down to find the public library. Rebekah needed to go into town to get information about a prescription anyway, so Rebekah, Ewa and I all went down. It was so HOT! We were going to die! After my GPS took us to far (we don't know whats wrong with my GPS on my phone) we turned around and finally found the library! It was just on the other side of an old city building. Its really small but very very cute! The bad part of this day? Well when I left to go with them, I realized I had left my key in my room. I was locked out with no way back in to get my key. I texted my roommate and asked her if she could meet me up there at 5, so all was well.
Here is the Library, and some pictures of Buena Vista.

On Friday, you all got to see Sutton... That wasn't fair. I am mad.

On Saturday some of us needed some things from Walmart. So we got in my car and drove to the store. Again the day was so hot and miserable that none of us wanted to do anything! We all shopped around and got a lot of snacks and more games! Yes we did get some other more important things that we really did need as well. We loaded everything into my car and get in. I am sitting in the drivers seat typing in the address for the school when a shopping cart rams my car!! We all look ed around and tried to figure out what happened. I thought it might have just rolled from the cart stall across the way, but Rebekah said that a guy pulled out, hit the shopping cart, which rolled into my car! I got out and observed the damage. On the drivers side in the front I now have a nice dent.... UGH!

Was there any good?
Through all of this week there have been some good/ funny things that happened. Elizabeth said that she had some packages at the mail center. Her mom had sent over her winter clothes. I drover her down so we could put them in the car and not carry them up the hill and stairs. Now I thought she was only going to have like 2 or 3 packages. We get there and she has 6! Quote from Elizabeth. "Sorry I am so loved!" Well we carried the packages from the center to the car which was an adventure! Here they all are stuffed in my car.

Elizabeth and I were also sitting at lunch the other day when a girl came by and asked if she could sit. She set down her bag and then went to get food. A minute or two later she comes back, picks up her bag, and leaves to go sit with other people. We totally understand going to sit my friends if you found them! But leaving without saying anything.. It was weird!

Wednesday night, before the fire drill, we all couldn't handle more school work. So what do we do? What a Disney Channel Original movie! Thank you Lemonade Mouth!

On Wednesday the school sent out an email saying that the Call Center was hiring. So some of us filled out an application, and went to their meeting on Thursday. Friday we had interviews which went really well! It turns out that the boss went to Timpview and knows Lynn and Reid! He also served with Reid on his mission! Reid I am going to call you to ask you about this. He even told me a story about you! I felt good about the interview and Saturday was offered the job! Basically I call perspective students to recruit them to come here, and Alumni to see if they want to donate to our school. I can chose what days I come in, how long I work each week, and they will keep me all 4 years im here if I would like! It was truly a blessing!

At Walmart, Rebekah bought Uno-Dare! It is so much fun! When there is a draw two or wild, there is also a dare that you can preform! We all definitely needed the laughs!

Every Friday we have a devotional or forum. The whole school is invited and no classes or building is open during 11-12. This week we had President Eyerings brother and his wife come to speak with us. (They are also the Washington DC visitors center presidents). Their message was incredible and Sister Eyering also plays the violin. She won Miss Utah in the late 60s and won the talent competition at Miss America. She played some amazing songs! It was awesome!

Lastly, we saw the first signs of fall!!! I am so ready for cooler weather, sweaters, and all the leaves to change colors!

I hope everyone had a good week! I love you all! Thank you for everyone that checks in on me and for all your support. It always brightens my day and makes me feel loved! (Even when all of you go and see Sutton without me. That one won't be forgiven.)

Labor Day Weekend Fun!

This was a very fun weekend! We decided to go on an adventure Saturday. So in the afternoon we drove 15 minutes to Lexington. It is the cutest old town ever. I heard of a bookstore that I wanted to find and I needed to take them to the Gelato shop that my family visited a year or so ago. So once we found the free parking garage, we headed out on to the street and started to walk down main street. We first found one bookshop. This is a newer store with a giant kids section! Also a cat lives there!

We then kept walking and found the store that I had looked up! It had books everywhere! The shelves were really tall and books were on the ground and piled high! It has new books and second hand books and old books! We stayed in there for a very very long time!

We then (after my gps sent us in the wrong direction) found the gelato shop!! It was delicious! Here is a picture of my friends! So starting in the back from left to right: Elizabeth, and Ewa (pronounced Eva but with the "e" making the same sound as it does in elephant). In front, left to right: Anna (pronounced like in Frozen, me, and Rebecca). These girls are seriously the cutest! The two in back are from California, Anna is from Virginia, and Rebecca is from Utah.

Next we went to McDonalds for dinner, and then watched chick flicks in my room! It was great!

Another side note: I went and bought Bananagrams, because I love that game! And we have played it everyday!!!! We are all addicted!

Here in Buena Vista they take Labor Day pretty seriously. On Monday morning we woke up to go participate in the Labor Day parade! Ewa, Elizabeth and I decided we would go walk in the parade so we could see the town, and just because the Upperclassman said we should walk in it.

The Parade was so big, there was even an elephant!! :)

It was super hot, so that wasn't to great. I thought the best part was at the end. We walked across town and ended at this park. Our school has about 4, 12 passenger vans. So we hopped in one to get taken back to school. We ended up with like 17 people in one van! It was hilarious! We all would have to lean on the turns so the car didn't flip over!

We came back and did homework for the rest of the day till 6. We then had our first ward FHE night. Instead of splitting into our 4 families, we did a whole bunch of competition games as a whole ward. Here is a picture I took at one point, it wasn't very good though.

There were fireworks that night which we just watched from our dorm. They were partly hidden by trees, but it was good. I have never heard of a town that takes Labor Day so serious.

I hope everyone had a good weekend! I am missing you all greatly! But I love all the calls and texts I have been receiving! Love you!
